Estonia holds the position of the most competitive country in Eastern Europe

According to the Growth Competitiveness Index (GCI) ratings of the World Economic Forum for years 2007-2008, Estonia is the most competitive among the countries of Eastern Europe.

This fresh chart places Estonia on the 27th position, which means that Estonia has moved downwards by one position when compared to years 2006-2007.

The most competitive country in the world is still USA; Switzerland has moved up by two positions. The third position is held by Denmark, And Sweden has taken the fourth position, by moving upwards by five positions.

Germany, which was on the 7th position last time, is included in the top five this time.

Finland, the northern neighbour of Estonia, is on the 6th position, as it was the previous time around. Singapore has the 7th position (last year, it was on the 8th position) Japan (5.), Great Britain (2.) and Netherlands (11.).

Of the Baltic States, Lithuania has the 38th position (last year – 39th) and Latvia has the 45th position (last year – 44th). Russia, the eastern neighbour of Estonia, has moved up by one position and now takes the 58th position.

The new GCI index includes the total of 131 countries.

When comparing institutions, infrastructure, stability of macroeconomics, and education and health services, Estonia is on the 29th position.

When comparing education, labour market, financial markets, technological readiness, and market size, Estonia is on the 27th position, and when comparing innovation and business, on the 35th position.
